| Unfortunately, our gene pool is very limited! While all of us would love to breed vWD Clear to Clear and are striving to produce vWD Clear lines in our breeding programs, there is absolutely no reason not to utilize the vWD Carrier. The Carrier has the exact same wonderful characteristics and qualities to offer the breed as a Clear, so why throw the proverbial 'baby out with the bath water'! Manchester Terrier breeders really ARE 'cutting their noses off to spite their faces' when ignoring that gorgeous quality carrier Manchester. Decades long experienced breeders will use a carrier in their breeding program and it is ok to do so.These are the breeders you consult when you decide to start your responsible breeding program. These experienced breeders will guide you along the way. Trust and utilize their advice. The above chart provides a full explanation of the results you would end up with when breeding these two genotypes. Granted, breeders must realize they should not breed Carrier to Carrier nor Carrier/Affected to Affected. To never utilize the Carrier is diminishing our already limited gene pool even more. As responsible breeders, we simply need to test our sires/dams to ensure one is clear and test our litters. However, I do not recommend utiiizing a vWD Affected in one's breeding program. |
